Sukab yang malang,

Senja yang kau kirimkan sudah kuterima, kukira sama lengkap seperti ketika engkau memotongnya di langit yang kemerah-merahan itu, lengkap dengan bau laut, desir angin dan suara hempasan ombak yang memecah pantai. Ada juga kepak burung-burung, lambaian pohon-pohon nyiur dalam kekelaman, sementara di kejauhan perahu layar merayapi cakrawala dan melintasi matahari yang sedang terbenam. Aku pun tahu Sukab, senja yang paling keemas-emasan sekalipun hanya akan berakhir dalam keremangan menyedihkan, ketika segala makhluk dan benda menjadi siluet, lantas menyatu dalam kegelapan. Kita sama-sama tahu, keindahan senja itu, kepastiannya untuk selesai dan menjadi malam dengan kejam. Manusia memburu senja kemana-mana, tapi dunia ini fana Sukab, seperti senja. Kehidupan mungkin saja memancara gilang-gemilang, tetapi ia berubah dengan pasti. Waktu mengubah segalanya tanpa sisa, menjadi kehitaman yang membentang sepanjang pantai. Hitam, sunyi dan kelam.

Rupa-rupanya dengan cara seperti itulah dunia mesti berakhir. Senja yang engkau kirimkan telah menimbulkan bencana…
